Free is Good

Yours for Free

Free is wonderful.

So I spend about 5 minutes of my time everyday signing up for free stuff.  I do not even have to look for offers of the free stuff, it comes to my e-mail box every day.  And all I need is time on my hands (and for most free stuff offers, a US address).

See the picture on the left? I got all of those for free.  Included there is a big can of baby formula, baby magazines, lotions, creams, diapers, shampoos, conditioners – yes, most of them are minuscule and in sample form but I still got a giddy feeling getting them (weeeee! and you have to agree – they are great for out of town trips).  And I got coupons too, lots of coupons.  I am not sure I will be able to use everything, but the feeling of free is good.

It is so good, in fact, that some people make a career out of it – cutting up coupons (for free or almost free stuff or discounts) and signing up for barter sites (to give and get stuff for free).  Others do it a step further – they do paid reviews and enter contests.  Admittedly, reviewing a product or entering contests are not in the realm of free (as a matter of fact, it is “work” and some contests even have joining fees), but the ease with which the “work” is done (well…) and the sometimes really hefty rewards make it so.  And because those others make a career out of it, they typically earn a little something on the side and win at least 3 of the 100 or so contests they join in a week.

Another thing that is free nowadays – and that there is a lot of – is information.  But there is information and there is information and sometimes it is hard to separate the trash from the gold.

But here are some of my favorite resources that could get you free, almost free or discounted stuff and good, valuable information:

Wise Bread Deals, for free or discounted stuff.

Money Tips Network, for the best personal finance blogs that gives you information on how to get rich (again from Wise Bread).

ProBlogger and Copyblogger, for free and useful information on how to make money through blogging.

Kikay Exchange, for great product reviews, free stuff and contests.

Freecycle, to give and get free stuff.

Pinecone Research, for paid surveys (at the moment, it appears that they are not looking for new members but do keep checking the site).

Rapid Video Blogging, for information on how to make money through video blogging.

Writers Digest, for information on how to get published, also features notable (read: real) writing contests.

God Whispers Club, for personalized messages from God (a pick-me-upper).

I am sure that you have your own tried and tested favorite sites that do not waste your time or give you great value (for free!).  Care to share?

Be rich,

Issa
