How Not to Get What You (Might Eventually) Want

Expand

Sometimes we make things hard for ourselves.

We hate this, we will never do that, we would rather die first, or punctuate our thoughts with “…only if hell freezes over”, allowing ourselves to fall prey to strong feelings of (false) pride, revulsion, aversion or not wanting something to the point of repulsion or loathing.  We do not realize that simply by planting those seeds of thought in our minds, we have placed a behemoth obstacle in our paths.

A friend studied abroad.  There, he found his lady love, who was an American.  Being on student visa and having vowed (strongly) – out of pride, maybe – that he will never marry anyone to prolong his stay in the United States or change his citizenship – he married her and took her home, providing for her and the children that came to them.  Life was alternatively good and hard, and his family went in and out of the US, sometimes with him, sometimes without him.  But true to his promise to himself, he never tried to get an immigrant visa until they, as a couple, decided he should – because, well, it was the logical thing to do.   But there was always that hesitation.  But he was granted his immigrant visa and got his marching orders but (of course) he did not leave, leading to the revocation of his visa.  Fast forward to some years, he wanted to study in the US but there again was that reluctance (could be fear – however misplaced – of being regarded as an opportunist who married his wife only for her citizenship), he applied for a visa and you can guess what happened.

The behemoth obstacle, which he created all by himself, was again there – barring his path.

Napoleon Hill said:

“Take possession of your own mind, and you may soon make life pay off on your terms.

Your mind is unquestionably your most valuable possession. You may lose every material thing you own, but knowledge can never be taken from you. With it, you can earn a new fortune, build a new home, and buy anything you truly desire. No one else can control your thoughts; even the cruelest tyrant cannot force you to think about something you refuse to accept. When you make a deliberate decision to take control of your mind and feed it positive, constructive thoughts, you are on your way to taking control of your life. The thoughts you allow to dominate your mind will determine what you will get from life.”

Life will give you what you expect it will give you.

So, if you can – know your fears, understand your fears, confront your fears.  It may be what separates you from what you most want, or what you most need.

While at it, control your mind, feed it only with thoughts that will expand you in the most positive way possible.

Ready to receive life’s blessings.

Because if you expect everything, you will get everything.

Everything.
