Money Summit 2011: Passion and Vince Golangco

Make A Splash

Make A Splash

The really successful people are the ones who follow their passion.

Take Vince Golangco, for one.

He loved to travel and would go into the craziest places and do the craziest things – true to his adage – living life to the fullest.  But then WhenInManila.com happened, which was a documentary of his personal experiences through videos and the written word, and people started offering him money so he can travel and experience the cool stuff more, which is, more or less, mind blowing to the once big dork who did not know what he wanted to do in life (still a dork, but now with a slightly better clue).

I actually first saw Vince at the MavenSecrets seminar I was attending.  He was with his partner and they were tweaking the just launched WhenInManila.com and asking for everyone’s opinion on how to make it better.  And make it better, they did, because Vince was seen everywhere not long after that – he was in fact a speaker at the Entrepreneur Summit I attended – to my surprise – because, well, it has been just months and the guy was already a speaker! Well, it helped that he was electric and electrifying – he actually reminded me of a young Martin Nievera (I was Martin’s staff for Martin After Dark and Martin Late at Night and have seen the real thing up close and Vince is not a far second).  I am not sure if it is the accent, or the wit, or the humor, or all of the above that makes him engaging, but maybe it is because of his personality and personas – he is surfer, skater, speaker, writer, producer, marketer, events host, speaker, U.S. military veteran, leadership development coach, ninja and Jedi apprentice – or it could just be, like I said, his passion.

Passion that is so palpable and contagious.

When the klieg lights are not on, Vince is an events host, a TV show host and a radio DJ.   He tells me in his email to me, “I really can’t complain about work as I get to play music, talk about cool gadgets on my tv show, travel to exotic locations to experience the funnest things and host the coolest and most exclusive events. The thing that really sets me apart is my drive and passion for what I do. Other than that though, on my spare spare spare time, I like to surf, skateboard, watch movies and drink good beer.”

According to Joss Whedon (American Screenwriter, Producer and Creator of the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer), “Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping… waiting… and though unwanted… unbidden… it will stir… open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us… guides us… passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace… but we would be hollow… Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.”

If you want to see Vince or hear him speak or feel his passion, he is one of the speakers at the Money Summit and Wealth Expo 2011.  You can learn more about the Money Summit here.  You can also follow Vince on Twitter @VinceGolangco, or better yet, you can apply as a contributor/Jedi apprentice for his WhenInManila.
