Winter is coming

Summer in winter

Indeed it is.

When I had my first taste of winter here in Canada, it took my breath away.  Vancouver does not have the negative 40 degrees that they have in Toronto or Winnipeg, or snow that is waist deep. But because I spent my whole life in summer and winter has barely touched me, I shivered and shied away from the cold. It was only through layers upon layers of clothing, heavy and sometimes uncomfortable (put it on, take it off, repeat), that I found my refuge, thankful for warmth it (and the thermostat) evoked for me. Toasty, that was how I wanted it.

Winter has also touched my skin and my face, which grew taut and then drier with every passing day. My lips also bore the telltale sign of winter – cracked and bleeding. It was not until Olay (more about this below) and Chapstick that I could smile without fearing a crack again.

But winter took my breath away another way. Winter, white on white, is beautiful. Snow sparkles as snow only can, with an otherworldly beauty that defies definition. Tops of trees grew heavy with it, and it peppered the air with its flecks. Fresh snow is good snow, white and pure and fleeting. It could turn to slush in the heat of a wave, or be dismissed by light rain, or turn into deadly stone when winter grows on winter.

It is coming. Soon.

The leaves will turn the color of autumn and the days will grow shorter. The sparkle of the days as we – who are now in the summer – know it, will be fewer and farther in between. The dreadful cold will touch everyone’s hearts again, and clouds would heap cares on every brow.

But snow may also be there again to transform everything. A promise fulfilled, the turning of the season come to life – in full circle.

As it should be.

P.S.  The Olay Regenerist Skin Care Starter Trio Pack really was what saved my skin, which grew old (hate to say it) in the dead of winter. I tried everything – from the expensive skincare line that I brought from the Philippines and some store-bought creams that were either too thick or too thin. The pack has a cream cleanser, regenerating cream and eye serum so it was value for money (I love good buys) and my face had every possible care.

But what’s great – and what I want to share with you – is that P&G now has its online site.  Through the link below, you can enjoy 10% off all items now through August 31, 2012 – and this includes the Olay Regenerist Skin Care Starter Trio Pack.
